What Is Genicular Artery Embolization?
Genicular Artery Embolization, or GAE, is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure designed to reduce chronic knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. The procedure targets inflammation within the knee joint by reducing abnormal blood flow to inflamed areas.
GAE is performed without open surgery and preserves the natural knee joint.
Who Is a Candidate?
You may be a candidate if you experience persistent knee pain due to osteoarthritis that has not improved with medication, physical therapy, or injections.
GAE may also be appropriate for patients who want to avoid or delay knee-replacement surgery and are seeking a minimally invasive alternative.
